Makoto Shinkai has to be one of the best anime directors out there today. His first film Voices of a Distant Star is just pure genius and rumor has it he did it all by himself on his home computer. We will be doing a review on that film soon. We wanted to start a dedication page to Makoto and his works. Wow, his commercial work is amazing. You see his iconic style in all of these commercials. You get the sense that he really put all the same dedication into these commercial as he does his artistic films. Bright colors, otherworldly lighting etc. He really does have a truly amazing style that is so beautiful you just want to look at it over and over again like a beautiful painting.

Makoto Shinkai is a Japanese director of anime and former graphic designer. A native of Nagano Prefecture, Shinkai studied Japanese literature at Chuo University where he was a member of juvenile literature club where he drew picture books. He traces his passion for creation to the manga, anime, and novels he was exposed to while in middle school. His favorite anime is Castle in the Sky by Hayao Miyazaki. Shinkai has been called “The New Miyazaki” in several reviews, including those by Anime Advocates and ActiveAnime—comparisons which he himself calls an “overestimation”. ~ Wikipedia
